A Little More Yogurt in Your Life

It's never too soon to start eating yogurt

We've passed it in the supermarket aisles, we've seen "healthnuts" eat it, we've read in magazines that it's a good addition to your diet, but what is the big deal about yogurt? For starters, yogurt is a delicious snack that will fill you until your next meal. It has been proven that yogurt is a good snack to consume throughout your day. It contains probiotics or "good bacteria" that aids in the digestive tract. Most yogurts contain this; however check the label to make sure it reads "live and active cultures" for your health benefit.

The nutrition of yogurt goes beyond good bacteria. It is also a good source of protein and vitamins such as, vitamin B2 and B12, as well a good source of Calcium, Potassium, and Magnesium. Yogurt is thought to be connected with better health concerning osteoporosis, high blood pressure, the gastrointestinal tract, and vaginal health.

Blueberry Greek yogurt

Try something different and buy all natural organic yogurt or greek yogurt. They tend to either have less sugar content, non processed ingredients, and a better taste. My favorites are Stonyfield Farm Organic Vanilla, or Greek Yogurt with honey or blueberries to mix in. Trust me...it is simply delicious. Plain Greek yogurt is also a great substitute for sour cream. It has no fat and it is thicker and creamier than other traditional types of yogurts.  So grab a spoon and that little plastic cup of creamy goodness and have at it.

  1. I'm a yogurt fan. Greek especially. Remember when we decided to make a super-duper healthy carrot cake so I added real shredded carrots to the mix and we made a yogurt + honey icing? Definitely got a big serving of beta carotene that day.
